WTF is “Meninism”?
By Paige Stewart
“Feminism is hated because women are hated. Anti-feminism is a direct expression of misogyny; it is the political defence of women hating” - Andrea Divorkin.
Meninism is literally feminism for men. It is feminism for the men who failed to do their research. If they had done so, they would’ve seen that feminism is equal rights for BOTH sexes and does not only benefit women - but men as well.
After posting a picture of myself in a shirt that read “the future is female”, a boy commented on it saying “I really hope it isn’t, RIP humanity #meninist”. My first thought was “why is he following me then?” And my second was “how do I even begin to respond to that?” This person was obviously so far gone into the sea of misogyny - it would’ve taken too much energy to even begin an attempt to save him.
The fact that men came up with meninism proves that we live in a misogynistic society and that we need feminism. Feminism IS equal rights for both genders. Anyone who says otherwise has not done their research and should not be taken seriously.
Whenever I think of meninism one of my favourite quotes comes to mind, which I saw on none other than Funky Feminist’s instagram account, “equal rights for others does not mean less rights for you. It’s not pie” this quote should be repeated by anyone against feminism until they understand it.
I know that not all people against feminism are men, we’ve all had encounters with those women who are against being treated as equals (I know - I don’t get it either) but I’m not talking about them, I’m talking about the men who created an anti feminist campaign because they were tired of women fighting for equal rights. I’m talking about the men who are advertising the fact that they want women to stay in the kitchen, to remain beneath them, to be grass for them to walk on. I’m talking about the men who do not want their mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, wives, friends or daughters to be their equals.
These are men who believe in their cores that they are above women, they are above the beings who gave them life, who raised them, who occupy half the planet.
There is not much to say about these men. It could be that a few of them haven’t done their research and don’t understand that others having rights does not take their rights away, it could be that perhaps they are just looking for something to label themselves as because they are bored and were trying to be cool (it didn’t work) and I’m saying to those men - please go do your research and I promise you’ll change your perspective.
But to the men who are pure meninists, to the men who believe that women are less than them and to the men who believe that women fighting for equal rights are “annoying” or “radical” - please can you go up to your mother, sister, aunt, cousin, wife, friend or daughter, look them in the eyes and say “you’re grass for me to walk on. You are nothing compared to me. You do not deserve equal rights. You do not deserve to be treated nearly as well as I deserve to be treated” and I can promise you, they’ll sort you out for me.
